THE PRESENCE IN PAINT

We are pleased to present The Presence in Paint, the second installment in our series of Southern California pop-up exhibitions. Set within a private residence in La Jolla, the exhibition brings together sixteen contemporary artists.

Sophia Flood, Piercing the soft scale, 2024 $12,000

Collectively, their works examine the evolving relationships between perception, memory, and the natural world through abstraction, landscape, and figuration.

Glenn Goldberg, An Other Place (61), 2024 $18,000

With bold gestures, shifting palettes, and luminous textures, The Presence in Paint celebrates painting’s boundless potential to reveal both internal states and expansive environments, affirming the vitality of the medium in contemporary practice.

Ryan Dobrowski, Fish with Potato, 2024 $3,800

A full exhibition checklist and installation images are forthcoming. Join us for a special event on September 27, hosted by Park Horse Project and Tim Van Damm, and for an artist talk and reception on October 11, presented by RCG Art Advisory. To attend either gathering—or to schedule a private viewing by appointment—please contact us for details.

Tessa Greene O’Brien, Falmouth, 2025 $5,000

Autumn’s Arrival and the Art World’s Renewed Pulse

Fall arrived in New York with undeniable energy. Opening week buzzed with exhibitions across the city, three art fairs, and a full slate of gallery dinners and parties that set the season in motion.

An Armory standout: Daniel Gibson, Red Earth Green River, 2024 at Nazarian Curcio

Join me for a Day in the Life…

I start the morning at The Armory Show, meeting a client at the VIP opening. We walk the fair together, stopping at targeted booths and ultimately acquiring a work for her collection. Afterwards, over coffee at her apartment overlooking Hudson Yards, we reflect on the day’s discoveries. Before every fair, we prepare a list of artists to prioritize, but we also leave space for unexpected encounters—an essential part of building thoughtful collections.

A quick stop for lunch at the Mermaid Inn

From there, the day continues with a series of private viewings arranged around the city. At one gallery, we preview Shara Hughes’ exhibition ahead of its opening that evening, with additional works shown in the back offices. At another, an Alex Katz painting is brought out for us in a private room—a rare opportunity to consider such an iconic artist in an intimate setting.

In the afternoon, I make my way through Chelsea, stopping at openings at Hauser & Wirth, Pace Prints, Matthew Marks, and finally Marianne Boesky Gallery. The evening concludes at a gathering in Marianne’s impressive home, where I have the chance to speak with Sanford Biggers, whose recent project at Donum Estate in Napa left a lasting impression.

When we begin working with a new client, the first step is education. Collecting is as much about understanding context as it is about acquiring objects, so we spend time on art history, the structure of the market, and how galleries and artists operate. This foundation allows clients to make confident decisions, and it ensures that each acquisition contributes to building a collection with long-term significance and integrity.

An incredible work from Kennedy Yanko, Without Gravity at Pace Prints

Should you be interested in selling or acquiring works, or having your collection appraised, we would be pleased to speak with you in confidence. We have a selection of works available privately and would be glad to share further details upon request.
