Rema Ghuloum

THE PRESENCE IN PAINT | SEPTEMBER-October 2025

Rema Ghuloum (b. 1978, North Hollywood, CA) is a Los Angeles–based painter whose atmospheric abstractions are built through slow accumulations of layered pigment, sanding, and staining. Her meditative surfaces evoke both memory and perception, shifting between density and openness to create fields that feel at once tactile and ephemeral. Ghuloum received her MFA from California College of the Arts, San Francisco, and her BFA from California State University, Long Beach. She has exhibited widely in the U.S. and abroad, with solo shows at Philip Martin Gallery (Los Angeles) and David DeBoer (Antwerp), and her work is held in collections including the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts at the Legion of Honor, San Francisco. She is a recipient of grants from the Pollock-Krasner and Joan Mitchell Foundations, among others.
